Real Steel

Image
I was re-watching movie "Real Steel" (released during 2011). Towards end of the movie there is fight scene between two robots ATOM and Zeus. Few management thoughts from this scene: - Do not stop fighting till you have actually lost the fight (ATOM hits back in the last round to knock off Zeus). - It is not about being stronger but one should have the courage to fight (Zeus was strong but ATOM had the courage to stand up against mighty Zeus). - "Not now ... Not now ... Not now ... Now". Patience is key. Wait for your turn and act aptly when you have the opportunity (Watch the scene when Max is having shadow boxing through ATOM with Zeus). - You should not get emotional rather apply your mind ("ATOM can't hear but can see"). - Don't become complacent or arrogant You have lost the fight as soon as you have such traits (look at the characters "Tak Mashido" or "Farra Lemkova"). - No one or nothing is perfect (Even Zeus had weak

A Trip to Nandankanan Zoological Park

Image
After a long time, I visited Nandankanan along with my sons Sai (16 years old) and Sannibh (8 years old though he insists that he is 9 years old), it was really fun to spend quality time with kids. Specifically when you stay in large cities where travel time consumes good part of your life in my case approx. 32 days of a year in travelling (I travel by car). Seriously, I spend 1 out of 12 months in travelling. Let me come back to the subject, though we stay very near to Nandankanan but rarely find time to take kids to Nandankanan due to many excuses. This time when I am travelling to Bhubaneswar, I was clear in my mind, I will take them to Nandankanan. Sai had visited at a very young age and Sannibh had never visited to Nandankanan. We purchased entry tickets, a guide (Manoj - young local fellow) escorted us and then the journey starts to cover 9 sightseeing points. It was hot but we were super excited as it was father and sons time after a long period. There are 12 seater BOV (Battery

Mallu's Corner

Every weekend I and one of my friends have breakfast at this South India small tiffin centre. The owner cum chef has also started recognising us loyal customers. My favourite is 'onion dosa' with some juice, which we get it from nearby shop. There are few learnings from 'Anna' as we call him. 1. Every customer is important . He ensures that every customer is given due attention. He will surely make sure to check with customer in case anyone feels unattended. He somehow recognises the same. 2. He does not use a computer or a note book to take the orders but ensures to maintain deliver the order including tele orders one by one without reminder and flawlessly with good number of footfall. This essentially means that these external aids are actually stopping us to use our memory power to the fullest .  How many of us used to have mobile childhood back in 80's - none but we used to memorise landline numbers. With the advent of mobile phone book - we hardly remember anyo

Exquisite moments at Yeoor hills

Image
Today, I thought of taking break from normal routine of Sunday and do something for self. Then thought of why not to go on a drive … in minutes plan was ready. I and one of my friends, we were on road and took my 9 years old Mahindra Verito (I love to drive this vehicle) for a short trip to Yeoor hills (about 30 kms) Yeoor hills used to be one of my favorite travel destinations along with my family and friends when I had recently moved to Mumbai due to calm ambiance and peaceful environment. Loads of memories. Now, it has become crowded but I still liked the visit to this place. Last time, I visited this place was about 3 years ago. After spending sometime in hills. We went to Exotica restaurant as usual, to have our lunch. Surprised see same same security guard, some other staff still working at the restaurant and a warm welcome received! A great lunch starting with a nice lemon coriander soup and to end with my favourite dessert - sizzling brownie. While waiting for lunch to be ser

Happiness is a commitment to self!

Happiness will be automatically be there with you once you realise what you have and you understand what could happen to you in case you loose what you have. Human desire is unlimited and one will not get everything that she/he desires. When desire more than you need then it becomes the cause of sorrow. Let me give an example as child we aspire for bicycle, as a young adult we aspire for bike or scooter, as young with some job we aspire for a car and as move ahead in career this desire gets expanded to which brand and model of car - Merc, BMW, Audi and so on ... See desire never ends, we need to limit our desire along with goals of life. Desires lead to 'greed'. Greed helps you with material things around you further leading to fake happiness. However, greed takes away everything from you when it is the time for giving back. Of course when you posses so many material things that you desired to have and you have now, leads to arrogance. Greed and arrogance are deadly combinati

Anger is injurious to health!

Image
Did you receive a feedback that you have temperamental issues? And if you are feeling guilty about it, there is a good news for you. Anger is just an emotion like love, fear, happiness… Anger is one of biggest enemy for one self. Your actions and decisions taken by you when you are angry is always detrimental. Anger can be triggered due to many reasons like you are asked to do something, which you don’t want to do, you just don’t like someone, misunderstanding, work pressure, family pressure and so on … Anger has no face but it is a feeling that you have. Anger may be a reaction single or multiple actions over a period of time. Anger (“Krodh”) is one of the five big enemies of human. The actions taken under the influence of anger always lead repentance. At times, due to anger, people will put you on wrong side even if you are talking sensible. Other side effects of anger are stress and anxiety, which has long term effects. Anger Management (easy to preach but difficult to practice): -

Side effects of Pandemic

1. People don’t want go out of their homes for right reasons. Employees are hesitant to attend office. Students are hesitant to go to school. They are saying that they will attend school selectively because my friends are not attending school. In last 18-19 months, things have changed so drastically. I am seeing people going on vacations but don’t want send their children to schools. Employees are citing various challenges why not to attend office rather thinking of solutions how to attend office. In case current operating model is fully effective why did we have these offices, schools since ages. Counter argument that we learnt it during pandemic - very nice! Just imagine if health care service providers, law enforcement agencies, soldiers choose to attend work whenever they feel to do so then what will be impact on all of us. It is not any more - stay home, stay safe but stay home, stay lethargic. 2. Effectiveness of online calls is questionable. It was fine when it was needed. Now s
